Round 11


The Jermuk Women Grand Prix has entered the annals of history with a thrilling final round in which nearly all games were decisive. The ladies demonstrated uncompromising fighting spirit and stamina, in an excellent display of competitiveness and sportsmanship.

As the participants approach the finish line at the Jermuk installment of the FIDE Women Grand Prix, the tension continues to rise.  With the penultimate round already complete, the reigning World Champion Hou Yifan solidified her grasp on first place, and with it, first place in the entire Grand Prix cycle.

Round 9

The final rounds are upon us in the Jermuk Women's Grand Prix tournament as the 9th out of 11 rounds has concluded. World Champion Hou Yifan has made a strong run in the last few rounds, and has surpassed her fellow Chinese rival Ju Wenjun who had been leading from the start. Meanwhile, Wenjun earned a men's GM norm, while Ruan Lufei, with a nice tactical win, secured a men's IM norm. Congratulations to all of the deserving chess players!

Round 8

The tension is rising in Jermuk as the 8th round of the Women's Grand Prix is complete. Not surprisingly, chess fans today witnessed the greatest number of blunders, as seemingly solid positions unraveled with a single misstep. With three rounds to go, Ju Wenjun was joined at the top of the leaderboard by World Champion and compatriot Hou Yifan.

Round 7

The 7th round of the Jermuk Women's Grand Prix is history. While tight at the top of the standings, China's Ju Wenjun continues to lead, a half-point ahead of two of her fellow Chinese competitors at 5 out of 7.

Round 6


Going into the rest day, the Jermuk Women Grand Prix standings have tightened up. After 6 rounds, Chinese WGM Ju Wenjun remains in the lead with 4.5 out of 6 points, but is being tailed closely by 3 others half a point behind. Comparatively speaking the games of round six were less tense than those of the previous rounds, possibly as the participants were looking forward to the coming rest day, as only two games were decisive.

Round 2



The struggle at the Women's Grand Prix continues unabated in Jermuk, as the spectators witnessed uncompromising battles on every board. All six games ended up decisive, as no draws were to be found. After two rounds Ju Wenjun (CHN) and Koneru Humpy (IND) are leading. Both players gained 2 points.

Round 1

The first round of the FIDE Women's Grand Prix in Jermuk, Armenia has started today, July 17 at 15:00 local time. FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov together with Vayotz Dzor province Governor Edgar Ghazaryan and 5-time World Champion Nona Gaprindashvili attended the playing hall. Mr. Ghazaryan made a symbolic first move.
